{"id":260,"date":"2014-06-18T09:50:06","date_gmt":"2014-06-18T16:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.hvacquick.com\/?p=260"},"modified":"2014-11-07T14:14:20","modified_gmt":"2014-11-07T22:14:20","slug":"whole-house-fans-and-california-title-24-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hvacquick.com\/blog\/archives\/whole-house-fans-and-california-title-24-2013","title":{"rendered":"Whole House Fans and California Title 24 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>California has\u00a0<strong>begun mandating Whole House Fans in certain climate zones<\/strong>. \u00a0July 1st, 2014 brings us the latest edition (labelled 2013) of the Title 24 standard that mandates the installation of Whole House Fans in climate zones 8-14. \u00a0This applies to designers\u00a0using the &#8220;Prescriptive Standards\/Components Package&#8221; design method (vs. the Performance Standards method).<\/p>\n<p><strong>All <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hvacquick.com\/products\/residential\/Whole-House-Fans\/Whole-House-Fans\" target=\"_blank\">AirScape Whole House<\/a> Fans are Title 24 compliant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can find the standard for download on the energy.ca.gov website or via the link below. \u00a0Of particular interest is\u00a0Section 150.1.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.energy.ca.gov\/2012publications\/CEC-400-2012-004\/CEC-400-2012-004-CMF-REV2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2013 Building Energy Efficiency Standards &#8211; Title 24<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">Title 24 position on whole house fans:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>12. Ventilation Cooling. Single family homes shall comply with the Whole House Fan (WHF) requirements shown in TABLE 150.1-A. When a WHF is required, comply with Subsections A through C below:<br \/> A. Have installed one or more WHFs whose total Air Flow CFM as listed in the CEC Directory is at least 2 CFM\/ft2 of conditioned floor area; and<br \/> B. Have at least 1 square foot of attic vent free area for each 375 CFM of rated whole house fan Air Flow CFM; and<br \/> C.
